Latency-Insensitive Design: Retry Relay-Station and Fusion Shell
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper introduces a new variant implementation of Latency-Insensitive Design elements. It optimizes area footprint of so-called Shell-Wrappers being partially fused with their input Relay-Stations. The modi ed Relay-Station is called a Retry Relay-Station. We show correctness of this implementation and provide comparative results between a regular implementation and our new one on both FPGA and ASIC. Latency-Insensitive Design for SHIM
II. BACKGROUND AND RELATED WORK Latency-insensitive design. Latency-insensitive design is a design methodology for robust synchronous digital system against arbitrary wire delays [1], [3]. In this framework, a welldesigned synchronous component (called a pearl module) in a system is encapsulated by shell logic, which is a simple logic controlling the communication and activation of the componen...
متن کاملLatency Insensitive Protocols
The theory of latency insensitive design is presented as the foundation of a new correct by construction methodology to design very large digital systems by assembling blocks of Intellectual Properties. Latency insensitive designs are synchronous distributed systems and are realized by assembling functional modules exchanging data on communication channels according to an appropriate protocol. ...
متن کاملLatency-insensitive design and central repetitive scheduling
The theory of latency-insensitive design (LID) was recently invented to cope with the time closure problem in otherwise synchronous circuits and programs. The idea is to allow the inception of arbitrarily fixed (integer) latencies for data/signals traveling along wires or communication media. Then mechanisms such as shell wrappers and relay-stations are introduced to “implement” the necessary b...
متن کاملAnother Glance at Relay Stations in Latency-Insensitive Design
We revisit the formal modeling of relay stations, which are specific connection elements used in the theory of Latency-Insensitive Design of Globally-Asynchronous/Locally-Synchronous systems. Relay stations are in charge of taking into account the physical mandatory latencies, while handling the regulation of signal/data traffic so as to avoid starvation, deadlock and congestion of local IP syn...
متن کاملTransient and Intermittent Fault Recovery without Rollback
Increasing chip density combined with heightened reliability expectations has spawned greater interest in fault tolerant design. In recent years, research into rollback and retry techniques has established them as an e ective approach to recovery from transient and intermittent faults. For applications with strict timing requirements, however, the high error latency inherent in retry approaches...
